What a beautiful island, with such friendly people. We were looking to discover traditional Thailand and this was the place. People waved when we went past on the motorbike and the children all wanted to talk to us, how refreshing after being in Phi Phi and Phuket where to locals seemed tired of tourists.
The highlight for us was fishing from the pier at night with the locals, it seems that is the thing to do on the island for romantic couples, no cinema or western distractions just the moon, stars and sound of the waves for company.

Isola adatta per chi cerca pace e natura…..
pochissimi turisti e popolazione assolutamente cordiale.
con la mountain bike è l’ideale.
Per noi è stata una piacevole sorpresa, trovare un posto quasi “incontaminato” dal turismo di massa!
Ci torneremo sicuramente ….perchè è un isola antistress.
Ciao al prossimo anno!

I was working for about one year on Ko Yao Yai as diving instructor. I spent many many evenings in “Heimat” restaurant and tried lot of dishes served there. All were really delicious, especially grilled fish with garlic - fabulous. The owner Yamalia is big-heart lady, who speaks four languages and is ready to fulfill all culinary whishes you can have. And the accomodation is the best you can buy on Yao Yai island.
Thanks for everything, Yami and see you next year…

We had pleasure to meet the owner of Heimat Restaurant and I must say it was an excellent experience. Not only does she cook delicious thai food but also she is unbelievably friendly. We received from her bunch of herbs and vegetables and she helped us a lot on our trip to Phuket. Thank you again for that!

It was more then a pleasure to stay at Heimat Gardens in 2007..I`ve visited Thailand already 5 times before, and I must honestly say that Ko Yao Yai at Yamalia Heimat Gardens was the most fantastic experience for me.. learning about the Thai culture, and enjoying the adventure and peace on the island. Sometimes you hardly see any tourists around, so theres a chance you can have a splended white sandy beach for yourself..So if you want to enjoy the island before it becomes to a second Phi Phi, you need to go now:-) You won`t regret it..believe me.. I´ll be going back to Heimat Gardens soon..The accomodation is excellent and the owner Yamalia, is so sweet and big hearted..She makes sure you feel at home…
I’m looking forward being back soon.
